"If This Isn't Nice..."

I recently came across this quote from writer Kurt Vonnegut:

and it reminded me of this project, of finding delight in everyday feelings, noticings, and experiences. Often when I feel delighted in this way, I will take a picture or make a note on my phone to remember the experience and perhaps write about it later. Here are three pictures of things that recently made me feel happy.

I have an undying love for egg sandwiches, and if I'm going out for breakfast and there's one on the menu, I will most likely order it. Except for last Saturday. There was something on the menu called Figgy Goat Toast, and on a whim, I ordered it instead of my usual egg sandwich. It was delicious, and I didn't miss the egg sandwich at all!

Walking to class recently, I was struck by how intensely blue the sky was. The deep orange of the leaves complimented it beautifully. The whole scene felt like a painting. I had to stop to take it in, and I snapped a picture to remember how happy I felt in this moment.

This bush might look unremarkable, but for three consecutive Saturdays, it entranced me! As I would head out for my morning walk, I had to stop by this bush because it was brimming with sound. It was like a bird convention was going on in there. Each week, I was surprised that it was still going on, and I wondered what all of these birds could be communicating about, talking all at once. When I walked by and the bush was quiet, I was a little sad that the convention seemed to have come to an end.

So, in the words of Kurt Vonnegut, "If these things weren't nice, I don't know what is!"
