A Food Tour in a New City

I've been in Denver, a city I've never been to, for the past few days for a conference. I wanted to see and explore the city, so one thing I did was sign up for a food tour.

I love going on food tours because 1) am I going to go to five different restaurants on my own? Probably not. And 2) the tour guides always give so much good info about the area.

I've been on lots of food tours before, but I've always been with a group or at least one other person I knew. This time I was going solo, so I went into it wondering what the dynamic of the group would be.

It turned out that there were only two other people on the tour: a pair of best friends who were having a girls' weekend. I could have been the awkward third wheel, but they were so nice! They felt like people that I would be friends with (which I guess makes sense because my friends also like to go on food tours).

Our tour guide, Austin, was also awesome, and the four of us became our own little friend group over the three hours we spent together. We had a delightful time eating traditional Neapolitan pizza (did you know that there is an association--the AVPN--the certifies pizza places that use the original recipe for pizza napoletana?!), empanadas, green chili (a Denver staple, I learned), fry bread tacos, and a Portuguese dessert that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of!

At the end of the tour, I offered to take a photo of the friends and they insisted that I get in the photo with them. So, here I am with my food tour friends, Jen and Vanessa:

It's a delight to explore a new city and try new foods, but it's also a delight to connect with friendly strangers.
