Music Outdoors on a Nice Evening in a Chair with Snacks

On Saturday night I attended Picnic with the Pops featuring Rick Ross (because you know that I'm a gangsta rapper at heart), and to quote my friend Katie it was "damn pleasant."

The weather was perfect--warm with a nice breeze, we were with good friends, and I could sit in a chair. I love to attend concerts and am all for standing and dancing, but it cannot be denied that sitting back in a chair with a cocktail and a charcuterie board is supremely delightful. Even better, Pete was serving as my personal bartender, so take that VIP section!

It was also not lost on me that during the performance, my friend Jessie sent me a reel that basically said if you are over the age of 35, your favorite band is probably now playing at the state fair. To which I could also add: or playing with your local symphony!

It's true that in recent years I have been able to see many performers that I would have loved to see as a teenager or young adult. Even better, they often perform together at the same show! This winter we saw Nelly, Ja Rule, T.I., and Ashanti all at the same show, something that would have seemed impossible to me when I was listening to these artists in college! And, yes, I have seen some favorite acts at the Ohio State Fair!

Sitting in a chair at a concert, hit acts from my past playing at venues I would have scoffed at as a teen, the supreme boss, Rick Ross, accompanied by...a flute?! I guess that I could view these as signs that I'm getting old, but instead I'm choosing to see them as delights!
